This past Sunday we began a new study in the women's Sunday School class I teach. We will be going through the book of Colossians and Philemon, using a book by Kathleen Buswell Nielson titled Continue to Live in Him.
She opens the study with the question 'why study the Bible?' With 2 Timothy 3:16-17 as our foundational verse in answering this question, we came up with the following reasons:
Teaching-to impart knowledge or instruction,
Reproof-restore to an upright position, to correct,
Correction-improvement of life and character, like setting a broken bone straight,
Training in Righteousness-correcting mistakes and curbing passions, the condition acceptable to God,
God's Word gives us pleasure and delight,
God's Word alone has the power to save and bring us to a saving knowledge of God,
Next week we will dig into Colossians as we find joy in the study of God's Word and give glory to God in how we live. I will be blogging about our study if you want to follow along.
"May God's Word be more to us than our daily bread studying the Bible every day as if our life depended on it."(K. Nielson)
