Image Bearer

I was recently asked 'Jody, what do you do?' My answer was that I've been a stay-at-mom for the past 20+ years, explaining the ages of my children, where they are now and what they're doing.
I have to admit I almost felt like I needed to apologize for the choice Rob and I had made early in our marriage for me to be at home with the children we hoped God would give us. But I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that is what God called me to do and if I was starting over I wouldn't change anything, except trust God even more.

Maybe the next time I'm asked that question I will answer with the following:

I am an image bearer of the God of the universe, created by Him, who values me as a woman of God.

"God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them."
Genesis 1:27

I wonder what the reaction would be?
Isn't that true though? I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, someday a grandmother, but those titles pass away and change.

I will always be God's.

There is no shame in caring for God's greatest blessing - our children! Many times I've wished our society gave more recognition to the hard work, dedication and sacrifice involved in being a SAHM instead of being so focused on the "corporate world." Ah well - we don't live our life for this world anyway...
