Colossians 3

I love God's Word, all of it, but I have favorite verses and chapters that I go back to on a regular basis. I want to be saturated with the Word of God(not there by any means), like water soaked by a sponge. I am back to studying Colossians with a friend and we are looking at chapter 3.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is,seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.(verses 1-4)
Is Christ my life? Or is it something or someone else?
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self.(verses 5-9)
Have I put away anger, a strong feeling of displeasure aroused by a wrong? Or what about wrath and malice? Do I slander, making a malicious and false statement about someone? These are all to be put away.
Verse 5 tells us to put to death just verse 10 tells us to put on. Taking off dirty clothes and putting on new ones. It is a deliberate act. Taking off and putting on are acts of our will, we choose.
More on chapter 3 tomorrow.
